Scott Brokerage Group was established in 1980 by Ian Scott.
Ian Scott is the founder and still holds the position of Managing Director of the company. Previously Ian's involvement in the food industry began in 1963 when he joined Colgate Palmolive. Since that time he has held Senior Marketing and Sales positions with Colgate, followed by Tuckerbox Pet Foods where he was Director of Sales and Marketing. Ian's experience in these years included a period in Japan where he set up the Colgate Palmolive sales force, and extensive travel throughout the U.S.A. and Europe where he initially came into contact with the concept of Food Brokerage.
In 1980, Ian established the Scott Brokerage Group. The Scott Group was a foundation member of the Australian Food Brokers Association (now ASMCA) and is a member of the U.S. Association of Sales and Marketing Companies. In 2004 he was inducted in to the AMSCA Hall of Fame.
Ian believes a manufacturer builds equity in their brand position. ‘’As a brokerage company, we build equity in our market position, our effectiveness and our relationships. Above all, we do not assume that what has been achieved today, will automatically be here tomorrow, or that the means of achieving success today, will be adequate for achieving success tomorrow. The biggest risk is to do business as usual!”
Australia will continue to follow the U.S. model, with more manufacturers and distributors relying on local food brokers to perform significant sales roles on their behalf. In this new millennium, it is critical that any manufacturer or marketer running their own sales department (including sales administration) compare their current costs and effectiveness with that offered by brokerage and consider the benefits and opportunities that are available.
